~DESCRIPTION~

Conceptual artist Lucia Hierro’s sculptures, installations, and digital media works address themes of capitalism through a truly intersectional lens. Incorporating various signs and symbols found throughout popular culture and on household items, she seeks to narrow broad concepts such as exclusion and privilege. A Yale MFA graduate, Hierro mounted her first solo museum show, “Marginal Costs,” at Connecticut’s Aldrich Museum in 2021. She also participated in El Museo del Barrio’s first national large-scale presentation of Latinx contemporary art, “ESTAMOS BIEN: LA TRIENAL 20/21.” The Dominican-American artist’s popular “Bodegon” series of still lifes features colorful digital prints collaged with items ranging from a Cafe Bustelo coffee tin and plantains to a cover of Teen Vogue and screenshots of videos playing on YouTube. The works in the series use everyday ephemera to highlight Hierro’s interest in sparking dialogues about class, culture, and identity.
