With the quartz crisis looming brands, including Cartier, had to get creative. From the brands inception through the mid 20th century, Cartier predominantly encased there watches in precious metals. As a means of lowering cost and therefor lowering the price point of entry into the prestigious brand, Cartier launched the Tank "Vermeil." It involved a process by which gold was plated on top of a  sterling silver base. Less precious metal coupled either a handwound movement (ETA based) or Quartz further reduced production costs allowing for a more accessible price point for the masses.

DIAL: The original, lacquered, lemon dial is in great shape. The lacquer appears to be free of any cracking or "spidering". The dial features blued sword hands.

CASE: 23mm  width x 30mm height gold plated over silver case is in good shape. These case dimensions was the vintage "mens" size however could easily be worn by woman as well and should fit a wrist comfortably up to 7.5 inches. It presents with wear commensurate for its age. It is completed by its original sapphire cabochon crown. There is a scratch on the crystal that may come out with some polywatch and elbow grease. It can be replaced for approximately $100 should the prospective buyer desire. 

MOVEMENT: Cartier marked ETA based manual movement. Service history unknown. The watch winds, sets, runs and is keeps decent time. The watch was placed on a timegrapher that which illustrated that it is losing approximately 12 seconds per day and has an amplitude of 219. The movement can be serviced for $325 parts (if needed). Just let us know!
