“Chita” Glasses Case
The vibrant patterns of “Chita” from Alcobaça are inspired by the colorful influences of India. These patterns feature exotic birds, animals, flowers, tropical fruits, human figures, cornucopias and pitchers.
The cotton fabric industry in Alcobaça dates back to 1530, with “Chita” being the most important printed cotton fabric. The printing technique was handmade, with dyes applied directly to the fabric using imprints. This industry played a significant role in the Portuguese economy during the 18th and 19th centuries through exports to Brazil.
Today, the tradition of “Chita” fabrics continues through annual contests in the Alcobaça region. Artisans and modern designers create new ways to use this characteristic product.
The Terra Lusa brand offers several collections of products that pay tribute to Portuguese Cultural Heritage. These include notebooks, wrist watches, fans, eco bags, mini umbrellas, glasses cases, microfibre cloths and adjustable book covers. Each product is inspired by 800 years of history, culture and tradition and combines quality with contemporary design.
