Elgin was a powerhouse of American watchmaking. As one of the first in commercial watchmaking, they were always on the cutting edge of development. The Shockmaster series of watches was part of that innovation with modern shock protection for the mainspring unlike many contemporaries. One of the joys of collecting Shockmasters is that there is a flavor for everyone from fancy to rugged. You could spend a lifetime collecting them.
     As Shockmasters go, this all stainless one is very unusual. The gloss black dial has raised numerals and beading on the inner track punctuated with a larger bead at every hour. The dial and hands are not lumed, but rather rely on the brightwork against the inky black dial to pop the contrast. The result is a striking dial that is readable at arms length and plays the light beautifully.

DIAL: The gloss black dial is in good shape. There is slight decay around some of the applied silver Arabic numerals. The inner track is punctuated with beading that alternates to one larger bead that denotes every hour. The dial is completed by matching dauphine hands with a red triangle second hand that Elgin added for just a little pop of color. 

CASE: The 33mm stainless steel case is in good shape. The case retains strong defined lines. It presents with wear commensurate of its age. It retains its original factory vertical brushed finish on the midcase which contrasts beautifully with the mirror polished bezel and anterior portion of all four lugs.

MOVEMENT: Elgin manual winding, 17 jewels. Service history is unknown. The watch winds, sets and runs. It is currently keeping good time.

BRACELET: Vintage grey leather strap as shown in the pictures.
