Patina. Damage. Tomato. Tomahto. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. All right, all right, enough with the sayings. In all honesty ones tolerance for patina is very subjective. What one might call patina others may call damage. Some may even go as far as to say that this dial is "Tropical". The truth is the dial is different now than when it was originally created and flaked in certain areas. Presumably, the flaking that we can notice is as a consequence of the top, lacquered layer from the rest of the dial. There are a number of things that could have caused this including some ill advised attempt to clean the dial.. If the watch spent an extended amount of time in a tropical climate, prolonged periods of humidity may have also caused the separation of the two layers. In any event the dial has developed a very unique look to it with almost a "spidering" effect with uneven flaking giving it a very unique appearance that only a vintage watch would possess. The highlight of this watch, beyond the patinated dial, is the case. It is no exaggeration to say this is the best 14393 case that I have handled and is completely unpolished. Additionally, the watch features gold furniture while incased in steel which is a more uncommon configuration, adding to the desirability of this example. Enjoy SCVW fam!

CASE: The 35mm stainless steel case is unpolished. The bevel on the bezel is extremely sharp. The bevels on all 4 lugs remain crisp with original factory lines present. The case presents with light wear throughout commensurate with its 61 years of age. The gold observatory medallion is well defined with its original matte background still present. The case is completed by the watches original, thin decagonal crown.
DIAL: An original, Omega, piepan dial. The dial has patinated from its original silver color to an uneven champagne. The dial demonstrates some flaking, presumably from top lacquered layer. It features gold, baton style indices and matching dauphine hands. It is more uncommon for steel cases to have gold hour markers and hands which adds to the rarity of this example.
MOVEMENT: Omega automatic caliber 561. The date turns over as it should. The service history is unknown. The watch was timed over a 24 hour period. The 24hours included periods of wear and non-wear. Over those 24hours the watch gained 18 seconds.
BRACELET: Comes on the pictured, original Omega beads of rice bracelet. #15 end links.
