Omega introduced its “Constellation” line in the early 1950’s starting with the reference 2648. The Constellation was Omega’s top-of-the-line model, offering chronometre certified bumper automatic movements and a medallion on the caseback depicting an observatory with 8 stars - each of which represent the 8 records omega set at Geneva observatory trials. 
     Constellations featured a variety of case and dial designs over the years. Early references in the Constellation lineage featured cases with lyre style lugs. Later, Omega commissioned the famous Gerald Genta to redesign their iconic Constellation model where we saw the "dogleg" constellation introduced. 
     That is precisely what we have here. A "Dogleg" Omega Constellation reference 168.005. But this isn't any ordinary dogleg. No. This example is a more uncommon precious metal: pink gold. We have a pink gold capped over stainless steel. To top it all off it encases the the most popular dial configuration currently sought after in the collecting vintage market - a piepan.

CASE: The 34mm pink gold capped over steel case is in good shape. The watch presents with wear commensurate for its age. All four lugs retain their beveled edges on the anterior and lateral portions. The original brushed finish on the back of the lugs can still be appreciated. The observatory medallion on the caseback is nice and crisp with all 8 stairs well defined. There is more faint scratches on the caseback but nothing too deep. The case is completed by the correct thin decagonal crown. The pink gold capped portion of the flat side on the crown has worn away as evidenced by photographs. The crystal was replaced sometime in the past.

DIAL: An original, Omega, piepan dial. I would rate the dial condition as an 8.5/10. There is faint, even spotting that can be noticed on the dial at certain, more extreme viewing angles and less noticeable head on. The dial features pink gold baton style hour markers and matching dauphine hands. 

MOVEMENT:  Omega automatic caliber 561. The date turns over as it should. The service history is unknown. The watch was timed over a 24 hour period. The 24hours included periods of wear and non-wear. Over those 24hours the watch gained 37 seconds. 

BRACELET:  Comes on the pictured, like new, gently used TUNs suede strap complete with quick release spring bars.
