Omega introduced its Seamaster line in 1948. Today it remains Omegas longest continuous running production model. Originally it was released with the advertising catch phrase: "For town, sea and country." A nod to the intent behind the design. A watch that could go anywhere and do anything. Perfect for every type of occasion, the omega seamster was introduced with the references 2577 and 2576.
This example, a reference 2848, is a rather uncommon configuration. Typically seamasters from this era feature dauphine hands with matching hour markers and cases. This 2848 has a steel case while the dagger style hour markers are applied in gold but what really sets this example apart are the beautifully patinated alpha hands. The steel case is wonderfully preserved with beefy lugs and its rounded off by the highly desirable sea monster hippocampus on the case back.

CASE: The 34mm steel case is strong. The case still retains its original bevels on all four lugs. The case presents with light wear throughout commensurate with its age while the lugs have remained beefy. The crystal was replaced some time in the past. The case sports the highly desirable sea monster hippocampus on the snap back case back. The case is complete by its original and correct crown.
DIAL: The original white dial has patinated over time to an even creamy beige while the text has developed a nice rich brown hue. The dial is an uncommon configuration as it sports applied, golden shark tooth hour markers while encased in steel. Further adding to its rarity are the alpha hands of which have developed a very charming ginger patina that match the dial perfectly.
MOVEMENT: Omega automatic caliber 491. 19 jewel, 46h power reserve with of frequency of 19800. Service history is unknown. The watch winds, sets and runs.
